A LONDON CITY CAFE, 1960
Framing a brief moment of communicative transmission through transition, Bruce Davidson induces powerful emotion within his black and white photograph. As the photographic lens focuses on the human search for meaning, A London City Cafe provokes a sense of curiosity as we are given insight into the lives of those portrayed. By viewing this particular scene in which Davidson's subjects are documented as facing potentially ruinous social obstacles, an expressive realisation of social concern and sympathy presents itself. Davidson's visual language suggests a form of shared poetic human experience.

Davidson's Vintage Silver Gelatin Print is on show as part of 'The Cafe' which runs until 5th November at SHOWstudio Shop, 1-9 Bruton Place. [more]

GARETH PUGH S/S 2012 - FASHION FILM NOW LIVE

Coinciding with the unveiling of Gareth Pugh's Spring/Summer 2012 collection in Paris, SHOWstudio offers an exclusive online showcase of Gareth Pugh's latest collaboration with filmmaker Ruth Hogben.

Fusing fashion film with live catwalk presentation to create a unique viewer experience, this film -  starring Crystal Renn and featuring key pieces from the collection - forms a cinematic backdrop to Pugh's Spring/Summer 2012 presentation in Paris this evening. More than merely showing the clothes, the film evokes the mood and inspirations behind Pugh's line in an evolution of the designers ground-breaking experimentations in blurring the boundaries of modern representation and presentation of fashion.

The fashion film, created in collaboration between Gareth Pugh and Ruth Hogben, is unveiled exclusively on SHOWstudio at the same moment as Pugh's collection hits the Paris catwalk, while an additional process film provides an unprecedented insight to the action on set as the film was shot in London earlier this year.

OBJECT FETISH 2011
Examining key pieces from the international collections for Autumn/Winter 2011, Object Fetish trains obsessive attention onto fashion's latest objects of desire. Showcased in the glittering confines of Selfridges department store, the season's finest finery is metaphorically unpicked through film and text, laying bare the underlying themes and motivations behind our current sartorial fixations. Looking at millinery for the first time in this series, Alexander Fury examines Prada’s faux-fur helmet, whilst Nick Knight's fashion film starring supermodel Raquel Zimmermann makes us all want to believe that we too could sport this super-retro-futuristic accessory. CAFÉ CONVERSATIONS

Following the launch of the latest SHOWstudio Shop exhibition The Café at Vogue’s Fashion Night Out earlier this month, we offer the next instalment of this unique SHOWstudio project; Café Conversations. The premise is simple: invite a selection of the most intriguing, exciting and influential movers-and-shakers in the fashion and art world to pull up a chair for coffee and conversation in our gallery space. The unusual aspect? The entire process will be streamed live to a worldwide audience, indulging our covert voyeuristic tendencies to the nth degree. 24 Hrs

As part of an ongoing overhaul of our project archive including additional content and the restoration of original features, relaunching this week is 24 Hrs, a Nick Knight and Stefano Pilati collaboration for Yves Saint Laurent Edition 24. Inviting scripts from writers around the world to portray a day in the life of a YSL-clad Jessica Miller, 24 Hrs is a 4-act tale inspired by the political slogans of the early sixties' French New Wave and explores fashion's application to a relentless round-the-clock world.

Also relaunched this week are Fashion DJs: SHOWstudio and Swarovski's unprecedented Abbey Street takeover taking in live performances from the Michael Clark Company, Paloma Faith and Florence Welch and a host of guests on the 1s and 2s including Naomi Campbell, Tim Blanks and Stella McCartney and Past, Present, Couture charting the first five years of John Galliano's premiership at Christian Dior Haute Couture. Examining the oeuvre of a true couture dreamer, Past, Present, Couture includes an essay on Galliano's relationship with modernity and historicism and an interview with the designer by Colin McDowell to accompany the 14 landmark images shot by Nick Knight.

The swansong finale at Giles
Inspired by Warhol, Beaton and Nudie, the Royal Courts of Justice this evening hosted the Giles collection, all set to a backdrop that some readers may recognise from Mr Deacon's recent residence at Bruton Place. House of Holland goes West
There was much to admire at HoH in addition to the usual japes. For one, there was plenty of Cher à la Clueless checks rendered in a palette of colours that straddled between pastel and bright. Another latex name to add to the list that includes Atsuko Kudo and House of Harlot (maker of THOSE scalloped skirts at Marc Jacobs A/W 2011). [more]

LES SMOKINGS - MUGLER
The final instalment in our Les Smokings series - exploring the eternal appeal of the classic tuxedo - Mugler's Nicola Formichetti and Romain Kremer took over our Bruton Place studio to the soaring sounds of Madame Butterfly and hardcore techno to reinvent this sartorial staple for the twenty-first century. In fact, make that twenty-third century - Formichetti and Kremer crafted a hyper-futuristic vision of Le Smoking with lasers, glitter, latex and polythene as the unconventional building-blocks. Our process film showcases all the action from the creative frenzy of cutting, pasting and sliming as the Mugler team create a bombastic depiction of forward-thinking masculinity. [more]

CLOUD CHOREOGRAPHY: TIME TRAVELLING WITH THE CLOUDS, KEITH TYSON, 2011

At first glance Keith Tyson's 'Cloud Choreography: Time Travelling with the Clouds' appears almost encyclopedic, a meticulous rendering of clouds as though from a science journal. But look closer and they reveal themselves as markers of time, they are the particular clouds under which pivotal moments in history, culture and nature took place. A multiplicity of time and perspective is presented and then elevated through the metaphor of the cloud, constantly in flux and with no firm edges, we see first hand the production of myth and meaning. As an extension of this piece, Turner Prize winning Tyson has also collaborated with Maia Norman of innovative fashion house Mother of Pearl to create a stunning clothes line and various cloud-inspired coffee cups and saucers.

All these are on view as part of SHOWstudio SHOP's exhibition 'The Cafe', 1-9 Bruton Place, W1J 6LT until 5th November.
