CURRENT LIVESTUDIO - JO CALDERONE FOR VOGUE HOMMES JAPAN
Last Friday, fêted stylist Nicola Formichetti and Nick Knight were in the studio collaborating on an editorial spread for Vogue Hommes Japan. Under the working title 'Elegant Mechanics', the shoot was a medley of chic, classic suiting from the likes of Armani, Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci and Dior Homme, styled with a sprinkling of rebellious zeal à la James Dean circa Rebel Without A Cause. The photoshoot was broadcast live via our LiveStudio, but in case you missed the action, each day this week we'll post a pair of exclusive photographs captured live on set. Log onto the LiveStudio each day at 18:00 BST for a fresh slice of raw machismo. [more]
COMING UP LIVESTUDIO - SIMON FOXTON
Through 6 and 7 July 2010, tune in to LiveStudio to catch legendary stylist Simon Foxton on the set of his latest shoot with Nick Knight. This unique men’s fashion editorial will be an exploration of the graphic impact of the silhouette, featuring this season's stand-outs (often, quite literally) from Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, Vivienne Westwood MAN, Jean Paul Gaultier and Comme Des Garçons. The final images will be included in this September's 30th anniversary issue of i-D, alongside Nick Knight’s monolithic 100 Portraits project.
COMING UP LIVESTUDIO - CHARLIE LE MINDU AND VAVA DUDU
Back in March, milliner and hair stylist du jour Charlie Le Mindu spent two days in our LiveStudio crafting an extraordinary headpiece complete with human hair, stuffed mice, and dazzling Swarovski crystals. Appropriately titled 'Yeti', the finished headpiece was worn by experimental punk band La Chatte’s frontwoman, Vava Dudu, during her LiveStudio performance. Be sure to check out the edited film of Charlie's frenetic creativity and Vava Dudu’s live session launching this Friday 2 July.

CURRENT OBJECT FETISH | |
Traditionally used by stylists to pin back loose clothing during photoshoots, the bulldog clip has always been a shy fashion wallflower. But that was before Richard Nicoll got his hands on it. For his A/W 2010 collection, Nicoll presented a parade of sleek office attire – Wall Street ready suits and sleek cocktail dresses perfect to wow at any company Christmas party – jazzed up with chain and crystal-encrusted bulldog clips. Used as earrings, brooches, and sometimes even in their most primitive function, as clips, this week’s Object Fetish is both a practical and fashionable addition to any enlightened office wardrobe. FROM THE SHOP ARMITAGE SHANKS, 2010
Minutes before SHOWstudio Shop opened its doors for the private view of our latest exhibition, Inside/Out, the ineffable Lady Gaga delivered an unexpected surprise: a strategically-placed urinal. Laying on its side and rendered impotent, this twenty-first century ready-made - appropriately titled Armitage Shanks - shows all the imaginable traces of her physical presence. Scrawled across the back of the china bowl is the aphorism 'I’m not fucking Duchamp but I love pissing with you', directly referencing one of the most influential modern artworks, Duchamp's infamous Fountain. But both the written message, and the act of 'marking' the urinal with traces of one's own self, take the work away from a stern gesture into a playful acknowledgement of Duchamp’s enduring, impervious influence. Stop in to see for yourself - alas, this objet isn't for sale. [more]

Time flies when you're having fun - while now a fixture on the Paris menswear schedule, seven years ago (!) we previewed John Galliano's first assault on the veritable Bastille of the menswear establishment with his first collection for A/W 2003. Photographed by Nick Knight for Arena magazine, this exclusive all-Galliano shoot was broadcast live, allowing viewers from around the globe to participate in a webchat with John Galliano, Nick Knight, and Arena editor Andrew Davis. For their frank answers on inspiration, gender and Richard Madeley, check out Galliano Hommes. [more]

Pre-Collection S/S 11: Preen Ever seen the sixties Spaghetti western Shalako? I haven't, but by the look of the latest Preen pre-collection, I need to add it to my 'must-see' list. For not-quite-next-season, Justin Thornton and Thea Bragazzi were inspired by the sight of a bustled and broiderie anglaise'd Bridget Bardot amidst a few dozen rednecks, and set about capturing the same mix of delicacy and roughness...
