CURRENT COLLECTIONS: PITTI IMMAGINE AND MILAN MENSWEAR A/W 2011
The A/W 2011 season opens with Pitti Immagine #79, the Florentine fashion showcase, this time welcoming guest designers Alberta Ferretti, Trussardi 1911 and Britain's own Gareth Pugh. While Ferretti and Trussardi present classic no-holds barred Italian catwalk extravaganza - Ferretti in a deconsecrated church and Trussardi in a station transformed into a contemporary art installation - Pugh opts to create a 'site-specific performance' in Florence's 13th-century Orsanmichele. SHOWstudio.com will be exclusively showcasing a unique element of Pugh's installation online, in tandem with his Pitti show at 20:00 GMT on Thursday 13 January [more]
CURRENT 200 PORTRAITS | |
For the first of our 200 Portraits installations of 2011, we showcase a selection of sitters captured on the penultimate day of Nick Knight's marathon shoot for the 30th anniversary issue of i-D magazine. Our line-up on just one day gives some idea of the breadth of talent covered in this unique editorial series - this week, our sitters include PR guru Mandi Lennard, model Alek Wek, stylist Alister Mackie, art director Michael Howells and the terribly dapper Patrick Grant of Savile Row's Norton & Sons. Each Wednesday at 15:00 BST, SHOWstudio.com will launch a new selection of video portraits captured on a specific date, the series as a whole documenting not only this ground-breaking live shoot but a slice of twenty-first century popular culture. COMING UP EDITING KATE
Inspired by the video footage captured on his shoot for the December issue of Vogue Italia, Nick Knight has thrown down a gauntlet to a selection of young film editors, challenging them to craft his raw footage into their own fashion film edit. Beginning next Wedsnesday 19 January, we will release each film edit as received, each interpretation showcasing a different side to the multi-faceted Miss Moss through moving image and showcased alongside a gallery of the images originally published in this fashion bible.
COMING UP LIVESTUDIO - BISHI
As our Florist exhibition nears its close, we invite singer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Bishi to stage a one-off live performance, broadcast direct across the Internet from our Bruton Place LiveStudio on 20 January 2011. Featuring eye-popping kaleidoscopic projections across not only our studio, but Bishi herself - dressed for the occasion in three-dimensional petals - this LiveStudio performance will be an excursion in both style and music, and a fitting final hurrah for our Florist show. Bishi's one-off LiveStudio performance will broadcast live from 7:30pm GMT on 20 January 2011
FROM THE SHOP FLORIST | |
The time has come to bid farewell to our now fully blossomed exhibition Florist – the show that set about to celebrate an astounding decade of SHOWstudio.com. Reinventing the traditional nature of still life, artists such as Mary Temple, Daniel Brown and Yohji Yamamoto created cutting edge pieces that flourished alongside LiveStudio performances from Stephen Jones and Mary Katrantzou. Brightening up the gloomy winter days, the florally abundant artwork ranged from a real English rose cast in resin, a prolific Guy Bourdin image, silk Mother of Pearl garments and a plaster cast arse from Mr Pugh. The perfect way to mark SHOWstudio’s ongoing innovation - here’s to the next ten years… [more]
FROM THE ARCHIVE EDITING FASHION
As we approach young editors to 'Edit Kate' in our latest fashion film season, our Editing Fashion project of 2005-6 feels especially appropriate to revisit. Shifting the focus of fashion film from direction to the editing process, SHOWstudio.com invited not only a selection of professional editors but the public at large to create their own fashion film based on footage of John Galliano's stellar S/S 2006 collection. Asking each to utilise the same raw material, the emphasis was placed on the authorship and approach of each individual editor, emphasising the importance of their hand in the creative process behind fashion film. Alberta Ferretti opens Pitti with a bang! Here's a quick photograph snapped inside the spectacular church of Santo Stefano al Ponte, the venue of last night's one-off Alberta Ferretti show and the official start to Pitti Immagine #79. Today it's the turn of Trussardi 1911 to wow us - apparently, a station filled with monumental pieces of contemporary art will be the background to their A/W 2011 menswear show. And tomorrow, Gareth Pugh pulls out all the stops for a site-specific performance piece - an essential component of which we can exclusively showcase on SHOWstudio.com. For now, it's back to the fair with me, as I'm off [more]
