Examining the season's obsession with millinery once again, SHOWstudio fashion director Alexander Fury metaphorically unpicks the meanings behind Marc Jacobs’ powder-blue mink 'doodle of a hat', modelled by the astonishing Raquel Zimmermann in this fashion film by Nick Knight, captured once again amidst the glittering vitrines of leading London department store Selfridges & Co. MUSEUM OF COSTUME
Created as part of the Antwerp Fashion Museum's retrospective exhibition Dreamsuits: Designs by Nudie Cohn, the Rodeo Tailor, photographer and filmmaker Alice Hawkins lends her unique eye to Cohn's equally unique couture creations, capturing their glittering surfaces on fashion film. Inspired by the idea of Cohn's work as crossing the line between costume and art, Hawkins dressed up a selection of Nudie Cohn enthusiasts - from Elvis impersonators to musicians, club entrepreneurs and even the photographer herself - in the Rodeo tailor's greatest hits and immortalised them on film.
Museum of Costume launches on Thursday 27 October 2011 exclusively on SHOWstudio

EDITING FASHION
An offshoot from 2005's three-month Moving Fashion project, the fashion film season Editing Fashion shifted the focus of SHOWstudio's exploration of fashion film from direction to the editing process and from fashion figures to established editors - from the fields of commercials, feature film and pornography to name but three - and global SHOWstudio viewers. All were given exclusive footage of John Galliano's Spring/Summer 2006 show, filmed by Nick Knight, to re-work into their own unique edit. View their final films and process interviews here, alongside a gallery of archival material documenting every stage behind Galliano's conception of this elaborate one-off show, the fashion press' reactions and of course Knight's unedited footage of the show itself. COLLECTIONS: NEW YORK, LONDON, MILAN AND PARIS S/S 2012
Having visually digested all that the spring 2012 season has to offer from New York, London, Milan and Paris, SHOWstudio fashion director Alexander Fury gives his overview of the latest collections city-by-city, dissecting the designers' creations for next year in a series of round-up reports. Examining the overriding mood of the times - as well as detailing the good, the bad and the ugly (although whether pejorative or complimentary is truly in the eye of the beholder), let us recap the season that was and that will be, and perhaps give an indication of what women will look like in the brave new world of 2012. Drawing from his series Transfigured Past, Franz West's untitled piece gestures at ephemeral recollection. Acrylic paint and collage activate the composition, creating a scene of intrigue and anticipation.

DRESS ME UP, DRESS ME DOWN
Exploring the idea of control in fashion image-making - shifting control from the image-maker and stylist to the model, and then ultimately to the viewing public themselves - in 2005 Dress Me Up, Dress Me Down offered SHOWstudio viewers the chance to dress Liberty Ross during Nick Knight's live interactive photoshoot. Inspired by live pornographic video chats widely available on the web Ross became the focus of a series of fashion film interactives and imagery, the creation of which was determined by the online audience and Ross herself. These interactive editorial images are accompanied by Liberty Ross' video and picture diaries documenting her experiences on fashion shoots and an interactive comprised of footage shot by Liberty, utilising her own body as a canvas for aesthetic experimentation. The origins of the shoot are mapped out through mood boards that investigated Jonathan Kaye's selection of key seasonal themes, and also a series of essays and personal statements from a variety of voices on the subject of pornography. OBJECT FETISH 2011
Examining key pieces from the international collections for 2011, Object Fetish trains obsessive attention onto fashion's latest not-so-obscure objects of desire. Metaphorically unpicking a key piece from a key collection, the latest instalment focuses on Riccardo Tisci's Autumn/Winter 2011 collection for Givenchy - namely on the pin-up emblazoned satin and velvet sweatshirts that were the leitmotif of Tisci's sports-couture chic. The second instalment of our object analysis series showcases this fashion objet d'art through text by SHOWstudio Fashion Director Alexander Fury and a fashion film created by Nick Knight, with Raquel Zimmermann modelling in the luxurious confines of Selfridges department store set to an specially-created soundtrack by Frederic Sanchez.

MENU, 2009
Menu, an artistic portrayal of poured coffee on paper, depicts a captured memory of sight through the representation of a café menu. Stephen Lapthisophon, a practising artist who is legally blind, uses his work to over-emphasise the sense of sight in aesthetic culture. By accumulating and collecting layers of meaning and associations, Lapthisophon provides a visualisation of his personal interpretations. His blindness is used as figure for the ways in which we see the world through our own specific framing mechanisms. Combining coffee with more traditional art mediums such as ink and gesso, the artist is able to examine the interaction of our internal sensory processes.
