CURRENT FASHION FETISH: MARIE SCHULLER
German filmmaker Marie Schuller is the latest female creative to contribute to our Fashion Fetish series with an incredible trio of films. While Schuller's three films are not linked - each exceptional work is born from a unique concept - they are united in a desire to unpick fetish and the female nude. The central work, Visiting Hour, references themes of age, memory and fantasy. With styling by Tamara Rothstein and art direction by Marlon Rueberg, this beautiful film is subtle yet sensual. Deliberately combating the under-representation of mature women in sexual imagery, the film delivers a pointed depiction of older females as sexual, beautiful and powerful beings. Oyster, a film originating from Schuller's commission for the London Fringe Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, is a lesson in fashionable flashing, capturing a wholly unorthodox journey on the humble London Underground. Finally, Pierce tackles the fetishistic connotations of body-piercing, controversially displaying footage of two young women having their nipples pierced. Not for the faint-hearted, these films continue Fashion Fetish's commitment to in-depth exploration of all aspects of female sexuality - private desire, public exhibitionism, and external fantasies of the female form are all brought together in this unique film trio, now available on SHOWstudio. CURRENT FASHION FETISH ESSAY: SUSANNAH FRANKEL
A second essay launches as part of our Fashion Fetish series. Written by acclaimed journalist Susannah Frankel, the piece explores and extrapolates the subtleties of the Rei, I Don’t Exist project. Focusing on everything from the chance happening of Nick Knight’s discovery of artist Rei Nadal to the intricacies of the collaboration - which saw Nadal curate the SHOWstudio Tumblr for a week - the piece questions the role that Tumblr now plays as a mode of artistic expression. Featuring a candid interview with Knight on his motivations behind the project, Frankel’s essay is an absorbing critique of fashion's relationship with the internet, and their shared passion for all things new and unique. CURRENT FASHION MIX
It's been a female-friendly week for Fashion Mix, with offerings from stylist Katie Grand and filmamker Poppy de Villeneuve. On Monday, Grand offered up a smashing list of teen- faves and dancefloor beats, including Spice Girls, The Virgins and Jack White. Fun and witty, just like Grand’s styling itself, this mix is full of so-bad-they-are-actually-great tunes. Departing from the whimsical vibes of Grand’s mix is our second Fashion Mix of the week. De Villeneuve's playlist follows a beautiful tempo of intimate and sultry American indie-rock sounds. Full of emotion and reflection the mix features the heart-felt lyrics and incredible guitar riffs of the likes of Neil Young, The National and Beirut. Tune in on Friday, 4 May, at 13:00 BST to hear de Villeneuve's mix for yourself. [more]
FROM THE SHOP DRINK ME, 2011
Drink Me's picturesque playfulness of plastic and pearls hints at the Lewis Caroll inspiration. Taken from the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland collection of Copenhagen-based jewellery, designer Alidra Alić's Drink Me epitomises her beautiful, delicate, sculptural pieces. Inspired by the decorative floral motifs that emerged from the romantic period of the 1800s, the plastic-based creation with freshwater pearls, exudes a wondrous, logic-defying sensibility. Her ultra-feminine and avant garde work is inspired by artisanal goldsmiths but often made using a unique plastic technique- a rigorous process which can take as long as six months to complete. She also incorporates additional materials such as precious metals and stones. Alić designs pieces with themes of illusion and a 'lack of function' in order to awake the viewer’s curiosity and to show jewellery in new value contexts. [more]

Aptly timed with the aesthetics of Anna Trevelyan's flora-heavy Tumblr take-over comes Special Cases from the 2003 archive. In this ethereal film - commissioned as part of Nick Knight's motion image campaign for Massive Attack's album 100th Window - Knight explodes a pure white bloom, offering a subversive vision of the beauty myth. Revisit the stunning film for yourself to see Knight's own unique take on flower power. [more]
