— LiveStudio Bart Hess and Ruth Hogben Designer Bart Bess and filmmaker Ruth Hogben are already half-way through their LiveStudio! Tune in tomorrow, 21 August, as the duo continue to make their contribution to our 'Punk' film season by creating a garment inspired by punk's association with metal adornments live on camera. Also on hand to help out are stylist Ellie Cumming and ballet dancer Eric Underwood, who is modelling the creation. — LiveStudio Bart Hess and Ruth Hogben Designer Bart Hess and filmmaker Ruth Hogben will unite for a live stream on 20 and 21 August 2013. The pair can be seen creating their contribution to our 'Punk' fashion film season. The series' brief asked creatives to embrace the spirit of DIY in punk and make a garment to feature in a film. Inspired by punk's association with metal, Hess will build a piece entirely from studs, pins and chains. — Fashion Film Series — Punk Penny Tu Our latest 'Punk' fashion film is by SHOWstudio alumnus Penny Tu. The image-maker collaborated with designer Shao Yen Chen on 'Kinesis', which explores the psychology of rebellious minds. The style director rang up Lou Stoppard to discuss the Maison Martin Margiela Spring/Summer 1993 show, which saw Margiela befool photographers and editors by showing two different collections, one entirely black and one white, at two different venues. We're pleased to announce that the second winner in the series is photographer Charlene Bagcal! The photographer offered up 'Sleek', a fashion film that explores personal expression. — From the shop — Silver Tusk Ring Shaun Leane The silver tusk ring highlights how British designer Shaun Leane combines exquisite metalwork with innovative design. — Punk: DIY Winners annoucement Earlier this year, SHOWstudio launched a major fashion film and animation competition to celebrate our current theme of 'Punk'. We asked fashion filmmakers and animators to submit a piece featuring a one-off, specially-created garment that had been crafted in the spirit of DIY. The competition closed on 10 June 2013 and, after weeks of deliberating, we're announcing our winners. Up first is Finnish animator Jenny Jokela. Stay tuned for details of the other five winners. — Interview — Punk: On the Runway Richard Mortimer Ponystep's Richard Mortimer rang up Lou Stoppard to reveal what he really thinks of high fashion's love affair with punk aesthetics. 'It is a bizarre concept that people celebrate the punk movement in their collection, but then actually those pieces are two thousand pounds and no kid with any kind of punk spirit is going to be able to buy those clothes,' he explains. Stay tuned for upcoming interviews with Shortlist's Adrian Clark and Matches' Simon Chilvers. — Fashion film season — Punk Miguel Adrover Designer Miguel Adrover had an upfront and in-your-face take on our new 'Punk' season. The self-taught designer is well-known for sticking two fingers up at the establishment. He is, after all, the man that fabricated a formal Victorian-style overcoat from the soiled and discarded mattress of the late Quentin Crisp. His 'Punk' submission is equally as punchy - enjoy! — Tumblr — Guest Curator Erica Schreiner Yesterday, 7 August, Erica Schreiner completed her week-long curation of the SHOWstudio Tumblr. The video and performance artist filled the page with inspiring imagery, from video stills to moving image clips, whilst exploring themes of death, struggle and refection.
