New Fashion Film: 'Ungewöhnlich Schön' by Nick Knight and Raquel Couceiro

Nick Knight and Raquel Couceiro unveil their latest fashion film Ungewöhnlich Schön in collaboration with Stern magazine! Roughly translating to 'unconventional beauty,' Ungewöhnlich Schön explores Knight's interest in the unorthodox in imagemaking, bringing to light what may often be disregarded. 'Light is what photography is all about,' says Knight of his decisions to shoot images refracted through glass, coloured perspex and water. Featuring models Jazzelle Zanaughtti, Anna Cleveland and Madison Stubbington, the film includes aspects of the backstage, highlighting SHOWstudio's concern with access to the process and the techniques behind photography. Motivated by the prevalence of sporty shapes on high fashion runways, SHOWstudio's Sportswear series investigates the history of key 'sportswear' garments. Working on the premise that a lack of both suitable terminology and awareness of the style's heritage has prevented proper, considered analysis, Editor-at-Large Lou Stoppard invited experts to reveal the stories and subtleties behind select items, from the trainer to the hoodie. In the latest segment in the series, stylist Stephen Mann considers the prevalence of Gore-Tex, explaining, 'The intention is not to be beautiful, the intention is to use the smallest amount of material.'
