— 14-18 NOW Manchester Art Gallery, Rei Nadal, Marie Schuller and George Harvey SHOWstudio are taking part in 14-18Now's 'Fashion & Freedom' exhibition, which opens this Friday, 13 May at Manchester Art Gallery. The exhibition explores the profound effect the First World War had on women, thus, SHOWstudio commissioned three fashion filmmakers - Rei Nadal, Marie Schuller and George Harvey - to consider the way WW1 shaped and changed women's fashion. Clothing by Craig Green, Phoebe English and Gareth Pugh is all featured. — From the Archive — Get Back, Stay Back Nick Knight, Carine Roitfeld and Lara Stone Who says you can't protect yourself in Prada? 'Get Back, Stay Back' is a fashion story with a difference, combining self-defence how-to with high fashion and starring model Lara Stone. Trained in Krav Maga, a self-defence system used by the Israeli Defence Forces, Stone demonstrates to women everywhere how to defend yourself against would-be assailants, whilst wearing high fashion styled by Carine Roitfeld. Revisit Nick Knight and Amanda Harlech's collaborative project 'Bonnet'. Oriole Cullen, curator of Modern Textiles and Fashion, explains the history of the bonnet to Lou Stoppard at the V&A Clothworkers' Centre. Alongside Cullen's in-depth interview, a selection of makers – Riccardo Tisci, Sarah Burton, J.W. Anderson and more - were approached to create their own interpretation of a bonnet.
